The Elder Scrolls Online is an online multiplayer role-playing game. As in other games of the Elder Scrolls series, the action takes place on the fictional continent of Tamriel. The events of the game take place about 1000 years before the events of Skyrim, during the Second Era, in the period of time that will later be called the “Interregnum”. Many influential factions of Cyrodiil are trying to seize power in the empire. The situation is aggravated by the fact that the planet Nirn comes too close to the plan of the Oblivion of the Daedric Prince Molag Bal. Taking advantage of this, Molag Bal is trying to capture the whole of Tamriel and make it part of his plan.

The entire game Tamriel is divided into four major warring factions. For the three main ones – the Ebonhart Pact (Nords, Dunmeri, Argonians), Aldmeri Dominion (Altmeri, Bosmer, Khajiit) and Daggerfall Covenant (Bretons, Orcs, Redguards), players can play in this protracted war. Players can complete storyline, guild missions, or battle for control of Cyrodill with other players in the PvP arenas.
