1998 proved to be successful for the group since their album as much as 44 weeks stuck in the U.S. charts and eventually got platinum.
The group was founded by the former drummer of the legendary “Nirvana” by David Grohl. In “miranowski” period, being in the shadow of Cobain, David slowly wrote their own material. The name of the newly formed team received from the slang nicknames UFOs, the military pilots. In his new project, the Grohl took over the duties of vocalist and guitarist. The company he was the former guitarist of “The germs” Pat Smear toured with Nirvana during their tour “In Utero”. Completed the formation of bassist Nate Mendel (ex-“Diddly Squat”) and drummer William goldsmith. After recording demos with four tracks in March 1995, a concert debut “Foo fighters” on the show in Portland.
In the same year they released their self-titled debut album. The album had good sales on both sides of the Atlantic. After a while the album became multi-platinum and the band received the prestigious award for “Best New Artist”.
The team went on a long tour and took part in several festivals. In 1997, the musicians started to record their concept album “The Colour And The Shape”, moving session from Seattle to Los Angeles. In promotion of the album played a great role producer Gil Norton, who organized the professional “promotion”. The song “Monkey Wrench” was filmed video, whose Director was David Grohl. After the plate, the team left the goldsmith. The new drummer of the Foo fighters was Taylor Hawkins, who previously worked with Alanis Morriset. In the summer of 1997, the band toured Europe, visiting several festivals.
In September, the boys returned to America, where he took part in the show “MTV awards”, during which the Smir live announced their decision to part with the “Foo fighters”.

Despite this “Foo fighters” continued to work together recording the soundtrack of “Win Or Lose” for the movie “Out Cold”.
In 2002 the band returned to live performances, having been invited as headliners for the festival “T In The Park”, held in Scotland. Grohl, meanwhile, managed to participate as a “guest” on the new album by David Bowie, and Chris Shiflett started his side project.
