Place of birth, education. He was born in Simferopol, where he received a secondary education. He graduated from Lviv State University of Physical Culture. In his childhood he was engaged in football.
Career. Box began to engage in 15 years. In 2006, he took part in the European Championships, reached the semifinals, in which he lost to Russian Matvei Korobov in the weight category up to 75 kg.
Then Usik moved to the light heavyweight category, and in 2008 he won the Strange Cup in Bulgaria.
In February 2008, he was sent by the Olympic Committee in Roseto degli Abruzzi, where he won in fights against Azerbaijanian Elchan Alizilde and British Danny Price.
2008 – participation in the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. In the first round, Alexander defeated the boxer from China Yushan Niyati, and in the second round lost to the future silver medalist, Italian Clemente Russo.
In the same 2008, after the defeat at the Olympics, Usik descended into light heavyweight, won the European Championship and returned to the heavyweight division.
2008 – took the silver medal at the World Cup.
In 2009, he won a bronze medal at the World Championships, losing to Russian Egor Mehontsev in the semifinals.
In 2011 – the gold medal of the World Cup, on the way to the first place was defeated by Russian Arthur Beterbiev, and in the final – boxer from Azerbaijan Teymur Mammadov.
August 11, 2012 – won the Olympic gold medal, having won the final over the Italian boxer Clemente Russo. The spectators were also remembered by the fact that after the final duel the hopak danced.
In October 2012, Alexander Usik with Vasily Lomachenko officially completed performances in the amateur ring. Having signed a contract with WSB, they moved to semi-professional boxing and now they are in favor of the newly created club “Ukrainian Atamans”.
September 2013 – Usik signed a contract with the promotional company K2 Promotions, and on November 9, he held his first fight in the professional ring in the first heavyweight division (weight category up to 91 kg). Trainer Usik became American James Ali Bashir, who works in the team of Vladimir Klitschko.
October 4, 2014 – the first title fight for the vacant belt of the Intercontinental WBO champion, in which he defeated South African Daniel Brewer, knocking out a rival in the seventh round.
April 18, 2015 – defended the WBO belt in a duel with Russian Andrei Knyazev, and on August 29 – in a fight with South African Johnny Muller.
In September 2015, Usik took the first line of the WBO ranking among the boxers of the first heavyweight. In October, at the 28th Congress of the World Boxing Organization, the Ukrainian was awarded the title of Intercontinental Boxer of the Year.
December 12, 2015 – Alexander Usik defended the title of intercontinental WBO heavyweight champion in a fight with Cuban boxer Pedro Rodriguez.
