Biography
Spanish footballer, goalkeeper, vice-captain of the football club Real Madrid and captain of the Spanish national team.
Casillas was born in Madrid on 20.05.1981 and spent his whole career in Real Madrid, where he got to be 8 years old. Casillas played in the Spanish national teams, who won the Cup of Meridian and the World Youth Championship in 1999. In the 1999/2000 season Casillas announced himself in full voice – he replaced the injured Bodo Illgner and helped Madrid win the UEFA Champions League final with Valencia. Soon Casillas lost his form, which allowed César to become the main goalkeeper of Real Madrid, but Iker regained his place in the starting lineup, replacing the veteran in the final of the UEFA Champions League 2001/02 with Bayer. Going out on the field, Casillas made a series of wonderful “saves” and helped “Real” win with a score of 2: 1. Season 2002/03, the keeper again held the status of the first number, not having received a single injury, and defended the honor of the club in 15 matches of the Champions League and 38 duels of the national championship, following which “Real” regained the title of champion.
2003/04: I missed only one meeting, but it did not save the “Royal Club”, which failed to defend the title and lost in the final of the Cup of Spain.
National team
After the debut in the team in a match with the Swedes as a reserve goalkeeper went to EURO 2000, where he did not go on the field. Two years later, at the world championships in Japan and Korea, Casillas made his debut in the final world championships (match against Paraguay), became the main goalkeeper of the national team and the hero of the game with the Irish – the victory of the Spaniards on penalties allowed them to enter the quarterfinals. Iker played eight fights in the qualification of UEFA EURO 2004, where he missed 4 goals, took part in two play-offs against the Norwegians and kept his goal intact in a duel in Oslo. Casillas was also the main goalkeeper of the Spaniards in the final stage of the tournament, which the team left after the group stage. At the 2008 European Championships, he was captain of the team, played all the matches in the tournament (except for not solving anything with Greece) and won gold medals.
