One of the leading bands of the “alternative metal” on the American scene of the 90s, the band tool was formed in Los Angeles in 1990. Its membership included guitarist Adam Jones, vocalist Maynard James Keenan, bassist Paul D’amour and drummer Danny Carey. The masterminds of the group are such groups as “Metallica”, “addiction Jane” and “king Crimson”.

The masterminds of the group are such groups as “Metallica”, “addiction Jane” and “king Crimson”. Despite the fact that the “tool” once took a course in a more simple and easy to understand composite structure with concise riffs, a tight, solid and sound aggressive, politicized lyrics, this does not exclude the presence of altovyj elements of music and a special plaque in mystical texts. The latter was caused by the fact that the group, with all its attention to all sorts of ills in society, was no stranger to interest in different areas of the “secret knowledge”: one of the musicians was in a Masonic Lodge, another was fascinated by hypnosis and did yoga.
With all this “tool” never betrayed a sense of humor, even very specific. Such a synthesis is incompatible, it would seem, ingredients and defined the unique style of “tool” that can be attributed to the rare category of “progressive alternative metal”.
Tool ToolМощным debut was the mini-album “Opium” in 1992, which contained the song “hush”, immediately marking the position of the group, who opposed the censorship. It was filmed a video clip in which the musicians appeared completely naked and with taped mouths. The first European tour was accompanied by friends, “rage against the machine”, and the us – with “Rollins band”. Their debut LP was released in 1993 and was called “Rollback”. The song “from below” as a guest vocalist participated Henry Rollins. Dark prophecies and depressing monologues side by side with sophisticated political satire, shock liftovye compositions with heavy ambient. The album was certified platinum and the band toured intensively all, including that performed at the festival “Lollapalooza”.
The next album, “Aenima”, was released in 1996 and was recorded under the production guidance of David Botrill, worked with “king Crimson” and Peter Gabriel. The team also has a new member – bassist Justin Chancellor (ex-“Peach”), who succeeded Paul who lost interest in the work of the group.
ToolАльбом was more experimental than its predecessor; he was an even greater bleakness, passing at times in oppressive monotony. In this work the tool has made a greater emphasis on more tightening, the industrialization of sound, the manipulation of noise and overtones, a multilayered layers of sound. Despite the radicalism, the album was again received with enthusiasm and became even more commercially successful than “Rollback”. In November 1996, the album topped the charts “Billboard”. Then, in the record of activities was followed by a significant break. Vocalist Maynard James Keenan together with guitarist Billy Chautala who helped record “Aenima”, formed the band “a perfect circle” (which began to play more melodic Alt-metal and made a great success of their debut album “Mer de Prefectures”), still touring with “tool”. In December 2000, after rumors of her breakup, the band released a collection of “Salival”.
In may 2001 he released his third Studio album – “Lateralus”, which marked a return to a more traditional style. The album was perfectly accepted even if the fans and immediately soared to the top position of the charts “Billboard”. In the summer of 2001 the “tool” went on tour with their idols “king Crimson”.
