BIOGRAPHY
The American theater, television and film actress, winner of five awards “Golden Globe”.
Born June 4, 1907 in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA, and was the seventh child in a family of Irish-American Catholics.
She studied at the Catholic college Merrimont in Tarrytown, and then to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. She began her career in the modeling industry, and later appeared on the Broadway stage. In the early 1930s, she signed a contract with MGM, and soon it appeared in many comedies and dramas. she starred in the comedy of George Cukor “Women” in 1939. This film is markedly increased in popularity Rosalind and cemented her reputation as comedian. Her comedic talent is also clearly evident in the classic comedy by Howard Hawks’ His Girl Friday “(1940), where her co-star was Cary Grant.
During his aktrskuyu career Rosalind four times nominated for “Oscar”: in 1942 for his role in the movie “My Sister Eileen” in 1946 for “Sister Kenny” in 1947 for “Mourning to face Electra” and in 1958 for “Auntie Mame”. In 1972 she was awarded the “Oscar” of the special prize – “humanitarian Jean Hersholt award.”
Rosalind was also very popular on Broadway, and in 1953 received the award “Tony” for his role in the musical “Wonderful Town”.
In the 1950s and 1960s, she continued to act in films, appearing in such films as “Picnic” (1955), “The greatness of one” (1961) and “Gypsy” (1962).
In October 1941, Rosalind was married to producer Frederick Brisson. In 1943 they had a son Lance.
In the 1970s, at Rosalind was diagnosed with breast cancer. She died on November 28, 1976 Beverly Hills after a long battle with illness. The actress was buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Culver City, California.
Rosalind has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1708 Vine Street.
