The capital of China – the town square of the Earth. It is more streamlined than the patrimony vaunted straight Germans – Berlin. All major streets are strictly from west to east and from north to south, everything is subordinated to the principle of Feng Shui and the compass. Peking – a model for all Chinese cities.
By the way, the word “Beijing” Chinese themselves do not know, for them a city called Peiching, which means “northern capital”. For all other (Americans, Europeans), by the way, too. It is in the Russian language the name “Beijing” came from the Turks, and so it remained. What is modern Beijing? Perhaps the Far East of Moscow. Stalin was the concept of Moscow copied in Beijing in 1950 and perfectly uzhilas that already – the presence of the old city walls that formed the Peking Garden Ring (or rather a rectangle).
Olden in Beijing is now almost completely absorbed by modernity. Up until the 1950s, Beijing has been single-decker. The fact is that before the 1911 law prohibited to construct buildings higher than the Imperial Palace. An exception was made only for Buddhist pagodas. In the years of the republic, too little has changed: first, it was not up to it, and secondly, how would not have continued to build on the momentum. But then came Mao, demolished walls, built a lot of buildings in the Stalinist spirit, has converted the temples in the factory, and from 8000 of religious buildings there are only 150. In the 1990s, the Stalinist-Maoist Beijing’s architectural concept was replaced by modernist. Like mushrooms began to appear skyscrapers averaged-Western appearance – for offices and standard Soviet-style apartment of the box – for the citizens. And all a bit messy and piecemeal.
Peking is divided administratively into 10 districts and 8 counties. But the concept of “region” includes the actual urban areas and suburbs. The city center – it is a square, divided into four regions-square (Dongcheng, Xicheng, Xuanwu and Chongwen). And it’s so long since the XIV century. In the same center of the large square are Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City Museum in Beijing (former imperial palace). Before the center was limited to the city walls, now they are demolished and in their place, broad avenues laid. In addition to these four areas, in fact the city limits of Beijing account for another four districts, the so-called “near edge”: Haidian District (north-west), Chao-yang (north-east), Shijingshan (west) and Fengtai District (south-west). Then there are already city-satellites, similar Mytishchi and Khimki, and county centers, representing kondovye Agriculture “Podpekine” providing food capital.
This is a completely mixed city, capital of a vast state with a long history, a modern metropolis, one of the most mysterious and attractive cities in the East, scientific, cultural, educational center of China – the city daily receives thousands of tourists from all over the world. The city, which on the eve of the 2008 Olympics radically changed its face, a city that impresses its contrast and individuality.
