Screenwriter and actor of Sherlock and Doctor Who, or how to make a kids hobby a profession
Best known as a member of the Comedy Quartet’s ‘League of Gentlemen’ (‘The League of Gentlemen’) and actor and writer of the popular television series ‘Doctor Who’ (‘Doctor Who’) and ‘Sherlock’ (‘Sherlock’).
Gatiss was born in Sedgefield, County Durham, England (Sedgefield, County Durham, England); his childhood was spent near a psychiatric clinic – as it happened that it was in a psychiatric hospital worked from both father and mother Brand. Such a strange neighborhood, however, is not particularly affected the boy – child he was quite ordinary; mark enjoyed watching science fiction like the classic series ‘Doctor Who’ and paintings of the Studio ‘Hammer Horror’, read the stories about Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock Holmes) and the novels of Hg wells (H. G. Wells) and collected fossils.
Children’s enthusiasm for the adventures of the mysterious Doctor has not left Garissa and in adult life; his earliest work was in some way connected with this TV series. Directly related to the Doctor and had the first officially published work Gatiss – the Brand has managed to push through a series of his stories in collections ‘, Virgin Publishing’. In addition, in these novels mark tried to correct the mistakes in the scenarios series, which led to its closure.
Preview television scripts, mark also wrote for the universe of the Doctor – or, to be precise, of the TV show ‘P. R. O. B. E.’. This spin-off of ‘Doctor Who’ was originally supposed to contain only 4 films; any special success they – despite the participation of several stars of the original series – had no effect on the DVD and was not reprinted. As stated by Gates, he would have to see these films again I was at that time mark was just learning to write decent scripts.
With future colleagues in ‘the League of Gentlemen’ Gatiss met at the acting school where he enrolled after high school, the usual. To speak of ‘the League’ began in 1995; it took them quite warm – in 1997 at the festival in Edinburgh (Edinburgh) they even managed to win a prize ‘Perrier Award’. In the same year ‘the League of Gentlemen’ has moved to radio; two years later they found a place on television. Television project also came extremely successful and brought Gatiss a lot of awards. In 2005, the world saw a new movie ‘the League’; the past success, however, he did not repeat.
To miss the opportunity to take part in the work on the revived in 2005 ‘Doctor Who’ mark, of course, could not. In your favorite series of childhood Gatiss worked as a screenwriter and as an actor; to play the Brand had 3 episodes, and the scripts to write to six.
Mark had a chance to contribute to the appearance on the small screen and another idol of his childhood Sherlock Holmes. The TV series ‘Sherlock’ (‘Sherlock’) is a retelling of the classic stories about the great detective in a new way in a modern scenery – Gatiss launched together Stephen and Moffat (Steven Moffat). As in the case with ‘Doctor Who’, mark tried his hand as an actor and as a Director; this time, however, the role he has chosen a permanent – brother of Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft (Mycroft).
Continued to exploit their children’s interests mark and beyond. One of wells ‘First men in the moon’ (‘The First Men In The Moon’) – Gatiss turned into a TV movie for the BBC (and, again, knocked the role and yourself). The fascination with classic horror films helped him to do a documentary project ‘A History of Horror’ – in which the history of these films pretty thoroughly analyzed.
Gatiss openly gay; at the moment he lives in a civil marriage with actor Ian Gallardo (Ian Hallard).
