Known for the role of the patient secretary of the ‘hellish boss’ David Brent of the comedy series ‘Office’ (The Office, 2001-2003), a blonde with large blue eyes, Lucy Davis began her career as a radio actress in a popular soap opera. However, the series ‘Office’ brought Davis success, and the actress moved to Los Angeles to reinforce this success and make a name for herself. After the ‘Office’, she began periodically to appear in serials such as ‘Studio 60 on the Sunset Street’ (Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip, 2006).
Davis was born on January 2, 1973 in the UK. Her childhood passed in Nole, Birmingham, England. Although Lucy’s father, Jasper Carrott, was a popular British comedian and actor, Davis and her brothers and sisters grew away from the spotlights, as their parents preferred not to confuse homework with work. However, despite such “safety” measures, Davis still caught fire with her acting career. Already at school she not only took part in school productions, but also studied acting at the Youth Theater ‘Birmingham Youth Repertory Theater’. At 18, Lucy went to London and entered the prestigious drama school ‘Italia Conti Drama’. After several years of training, Davis became interested in television and soon completely switched to training at the seminars ‘Carlton TV Junior Workshop’.
Just around the corner, Davis was expecting her first role in the classic miniseries Pride and Prejudice (1995), in which she performed the role of Mary Lucas, Bennett’s younger sisters best friend. Around the same time, Lucy received a small role in the radio series ‘The Archers’, which incredibly stretched out and turned into a soap opera.
Davis kept looking for opportunities to build a career, but soon she started serious health problems. In 1994, she began to suffer from kidney failure, and three years later, in 1997, she received organ transplants from her mother. Then followed a long recovery period, during which Lucy began to develop diabetes. Throughout her life, Davis strictly adhered to medical recommendations, but against the background of her illness she had to fight with weight, and this was often the topic of discussion in the rude British tabloids.
After Davis was able to return to work, she appeared in several serials and commercials, until in 2000 she fell into the team of the hit ‘Office’. The producers immediately won her natural, ‘non-actor’ style of play, which perfectly suited the tone of their pseudo-documentary film.
Davis won the role of Don Tinsley and for two seasons played the secretary of the boss of the ‘Office’ David Brent (Ricky Gervais). The heroine Davis had to endure his inability to lead and megalomania. Soon, ‘Office’ moved to the cable channel BBC America and became one of several foreign comedies, won the approval of American viewers.
In 2004, the series was awarded the ‘Golden Globe’ in the nomination ‘Best Comedy’, and Davis herself attracted the attention of the press. In the same year, Davis offered the role of the ‘fat, ugly sister’ of the heroine Cameron Diaz in the comedy ‘Away from You’ (In Her Shoes). The actress turned down the offer and starred in a cult comedy about the zombie ‘Shaun of the Dead’ (Shaun of the Dead, 2004). In early 2005, Davis moved to Los Angeles.
Together with David Duchovny, Lucy starred in the movie ‘TV’ (The TV Set, 2005), and then took part in the scoring of the cartoon ‘Garfield Two’ (2006). Over the next few years, Davis starred in the television series ‘Studio 60 on Sunset Street’ (2006-07), ‘Ugly Betty’ (2006-09), ‘Californication’ (Californication, 2007-09), ‘The Reaper’ ( Reaper, 2007-09). Also in the last couple of years she has had a lot of feature films: ‘Shades of Ray’ (2008); ‘Bob Funk’, ‘All About Steve’ (All About Steve), ‘The Cellar’.
