Joseph Schildkraut – Austrian actor of film and television.
Biography
Joseph was born in Vienna on March 22, 1896, his father, Rudolf Schildkraut, was an actor. In the early 1900s he moved to the United States, there has appeared in many Broadway productions.
In 1921, the actor played the title role in the play “Liliom” by Ferenc Molnar product. At the same time, Joseph began acting in silent films, periodically returning to the game in the theater.
The first success came to Joseph Schildkraut the role of Chevalier de Vaudrey in the dramatic film “Orphans of the storm,” directed by DW Griffith in 1921, where he played together with the actress Lillian Gish. In 1925, the actor was the main role in the movie “The Road to the last day,” directed by Cecil B. DeMille. With him Schildkraut worked on the epic film “King of Kings” in the role of Judas Iscariot. In this film, there was also the father of Joseph.
In 1929, the actor starred in the first part of the sound film, it was a picture of “Floating Theatre”, filmed on the novel by Edna Ferber.
For Alfred Dreyfus in the film “The Life of Emile Zola” 1937 Schildkraut received an Academy Award in the category “Best Actor”.
Of even greater glory Joseph Schildkraut acquired after the execution of the role of the Duke of Orleans in the historical epic “Marie Antoinette” in 1938, which also starred Norma Shearer, Tyrone Power, John Barrymore and Robert Morley.
