Jane Darwell (real name – Patti Woodard) – American actress, winner of the award “Oscar”. Born October 15, 1879 in Palmyra, Missouri. During his film career, Jane has played in more than one hundred and fifty feature films.
Biography
Jane Darwell from an early age dreamed of a circus artiste career with a worldwide reputation. However, her father was strongly opposed to Jane linked her life with severe circus profession. As a result, she was fascinated by the adjacent creative fields – theater. She played one of the first roles on the stage of one of the theaters in Chicago.
In 1913, the actress made her debut in the movie. In the same year Darvell played just seven short silent films.
Soon the actress proved that it is able to cope with almost any role, which caused great interest of filmmakers. In the interval from 1914 to 1915 Darvell starred in nine films.
Then came the almost fifteen years break in the film career actress. She returned to the screens only in 1930 with a role in the film by John Cromwell «Tom Sawyer». From 1930 to 1940, Jane Darwell appeared about seven dozen pictures.
The most famous film of that period with the actress became a melodrama Victor Fleming, George Cukor and Sam Wood «Gone with the Wind». The tape has collected a good cash – 0,176,459 900,000 under budget.
In 1940, Jane Darwell again waiting for luck – she was offered a role in the drama of John Ford’s «The Grapes of Wrath». in the category “Best Actress” in 1941 for his role in this movie, Jane became the winner of the “Oscar” award.
Then filmography talented actress replenished work in such films as «All That Money Can Buy», «Young America», «Men of Texas», «Ox-Bow Incident», «Tender Comrade», «Mary Poppins» and many others.
The actress died August 13, 1967 in Woodland Hills, California.
