Johnson is best known for the role of Nick Miller in the comedy series “New Girl” (“New Girl”) with Zoe Deschanel. For this role, the actor received the nomination for the youth award ‘Teen Choice Award’. In addition, he appeared in the film ‘Paper Heart’ (2009) and the tragicomedy ‘Safety Not Guaranteed’ (2012).
Jake Johnson was born in Evanston, Illinois, in the northern suburbs (Chicago), on May 28, 1978, in a family with Irish roots. He was brought up by a single mother, an artist who mostly makes stained glass. Johnson grew up to be a real fan of the group of improvisers ‘Second City’, which is due to the discovery of the talents of such actors as John Belushi, Tina Fey and Chris Farley.
Jake graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka and continued his studies at the University of Iowa. While in Iowa City, Johnson wrote a play that led him straight to the drama department of the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University (NYU). By 2002, Johnson won the “John Golden Playwriting Prize” award, given to the authors of excellent scripts. His play ‘Cousins’ was staged by the New York off-Broadway troupe ‘The Ensemble Studio Theater’.
While in New York, Johnson began working with the comedic team ‘The Midwesterners’. After watching the HBO sketch series ‘Mr. Show with Bob and David’, the screenwriter knew exactly how to ‘reshape’ the ‘Midwesterners’ repertoire and work on a new style. After moving to Los Angeles (Los Angeles) Johnson got a job as a waiter and was an assistant director. In addition, he appeared in several television projects. In 2007, he received more or less stable work – and acted with comic numbers in the web series ‘Derek and Simon’ by Bob Odenkirk (Bob Odenkirk).
In 2009, the actor was in the pseudo-documentary film ‘Paper Heart’ with Michael Cera (Michael Cera). A year later, he played a small role as a jazzman in the musical comedy ‘Get Him to the Greek’. He appeared in the image of Teddy, a brother-nedotepy Uma Thurman (Uma Thurman), in the romantic comedy ‘Wedding’ (‘Ceremony’). Johnson received a major role in the film ‘Safety is not guaranteed’ 2012, which became a participant in the film festival ‘Sundance’.
