The actress debuted – and not without success – with a small role in the film “Goodbye, Children” (1987) by Louis Mull.
Irene Jacob was born in Geneva, the capital of Switzerland. She studied at the drama studio, at the Geneva Music Conservatory, at the National Drama School. The actress debuted – and not without success – with a small role in the film “Goodbye, Children” (1987) by Louis Mull. Fame came to Jacob after receiving the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress she played in Krzysztof Kieslowski’s “The Double Life of Veronica” (1991), which later co-starred in “Three Colors: Red” (along with Jean-Louis Trintignant). The actress worked with such directors as Agnieszka Holland (“The Secret Garden”), Michelangelo Antonioni (“Behind the Clouds”), Lawrence Fishburne – in her film version of “Othello” she performed the role of Desdemona. One of the last works of the actress in Hollywood is the militant “US Marshals”.
