Biography
British film and stage actress.
Full name – Imelda Mary Philomena Bernadette Staunton.
Imelda Staunton as a child she performed the title role of Polly Peachum in a school production of “The Beggar’s Opera.” In 18 years, he was admitted to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and appeared to have a great English stage. He began with performances at Goldoni Theatre Northcott Theatre. Then moved to the Royal Shakespeare Company, and in 1982 became an actress of the National Theatre.
The screen first appeared in “The Singing Detective” series. In 1986 he starred in Bill Douglas “Comrades.” Among her most notable works in the movie – the picture “Friends of Peter”, “Much Ado About Nothing,” “Shakespeare in Love,” “Vera Drake,” “Nanny McPhee,” “Psychic”, “David Copperfield” and others. In 2007 he appeared in the film “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” in the role of Dolores Umbridge. Also, the actress has been sound, in particular, took part in voicing animated Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland.”
With her future husband, Jim Carter, met in the early 1980s at the National Theatre. In 1983, they married in 1993 the couple had a daughter.
Imelda Staunton is the winner of BAFTA award for the main role in the film Mike Leigh’s “Vera Drake.” For this role received awards in Venice and New York film festivals and was nominated for “Oscar” award. In 2006 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services to the film industry.
