BIOGRAPHY
4 Dec 1933 (Berlin, Germany) — March 3, 2003 (Berlin).
German theater and film actor.
Born in the family of a German cobbler and a Danish.
At the end of the war he was in an orphanage in Czechoslovakia. After the war, returned to Berlin. Dropped out of school. Since 1948, at the age of 15, made his debut on the theatre scene of Berlin in the role of Emile in the play “Emil and the detectives” (based on the novel by E. Kestner).
In 1950 he moved to West Berlin. He graduated from the acting courses M. Ludwig. Worked in radio and theatre.
For the first time in the movie, appeared in 1952.
Successfully played Vincent in the film by French Director Julien Duvivier’s “Marianne of my youth” (1955) and Misha in the film Helmut Kautner “Sky without stars” (1955, Federal prize at the Cannes film festival, 1956).
Buchholz immediately remembered by the audience — a narrow and unusual shape of the eyes, high cheekbones, thin face, bright appearance. Horst Buchholz was not similar to the canonical type of German, and probably why the actor was easily perevoploschatsya the hero of any nationality and from 1959 appeared outside of Germany. Has played in more than 60 films.
In a big movie back in 1985 — played the role of Walter Hoffman in the spy Thriller “Code name “Emerald”. In 1997 he played Dr. Lessing in the Comedy Roberto Benigni’s “Life is beautiful” (Prize “Screen Award’s”).
He lived in Paris and Switzerland. Horst Buchholz died of pneumonia in a Berlin hospital in early March 2003. Buried in Berlin.
Christopher Buchholz is the son of Horst Buchholz, set in 2005, the film “Horst Buchholz… My Papa”.
