Biography
Jean was born on August 23, 1912 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in a family of Irish immigrants, the third son in the family. Full real name Eugenie Curran Kelly, but all his life he was known simply Gene.
From childhood on his other distinguished irrepressible energy, a boy engaged in all kinds of sports at once. Baseball, football, hockey, swimming, were painted him by the hour. When he realized that the only way to communicate closer with the girls is dancing, he seriously took up dancing. Gene started early to earn money for the family. I took any job: bricklayer, waiter, dance teacher. In 1933 he received his BA in Economics and opened the family business – dance studios in the two cities. Initially, the work manager and dance teacher fascinated him, and then his limitless possibilities became irresistibly enticing New York.
Since 1938 Jean began performing as a dancer in Broadway productions.
