Biography
Eva Marie Saint was born July 4, 1924 in Newark, New Jersey in a family of Eva Marie Saint and John Mird. In 1942 she graduated from Central High Betlehem school and then studied acting at the State University of Bowling Green. In the late 1940s, she began her career on radio and television. Since the beginning of 1950 it has already shone on Broadway, and in 1953 was awarded the “dramatic critics Awards” for his role in the play “Trip to Bountiful” where she played with Lillian Gish and Jo Van Fleet. In 1955, she was first nominated for the “Emmy” for his role in “Television Theatre”, and a year later was nominated again for her role in the TV version of the musical “Our Town.” Her success and popularity on television have reached such a level that the young Eva Marie Saint was nicknamed “TV Helen Hayes.”
In the movie, she made her debut in 1954 in the Elia Kazan film “On the Waterfront” with Marlon Brando in the lead role. Her first role earned her the award “Oscar” for “Best Supporting Actress”. This role helped Eva Marie Saint to receive other roles in famous films at the beginning of her film career, including such as “Hat Full of Rain” (1957) and Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece “North by Northwest” (1959). Although the role in the film “North by Northwest” is even more raised her career as an actress, she nevertheless subsequently renounced many interesting roles, devoting much of her time to her husband, director Jeffrey Heydanu and his two children.
In the 1970’s Eva Marie Saint starred in the film mainly in supporting roles, and so she decided to return to the TV and theater stage. She starred in many famous films and television twice nominated for the award “Emmy.”
Recently, Eva Marie Saint continues to act in films. Frank became the movie “I Dreamed of Africa” (2000), Miss Franny in “Because of Winn-Dixie” (2005) and Martha Kent in “Superman Returns” (2006) From the last of her most notable roles. In 2009, Eva Marie Saint appeared on the 81st ceremony of the Academy Award, awarding the “Oscar” Penelope Cruz, winner in the category “Best Supporting Actress”.
