Born in Vienna, Austria-Hungary. After completing secondary school Stroheim in 1901-1904 he studied at the Academy of Commerce in Graz, worked for some time at his father’s factory.
From his childhood in love with uniforms, in April 1906, he tried to enlist in the military, but because of his small stature (168 cm), and physical weakness was found unfit for military service; a little more than six months he was in the army, in the cavalry, as a volunteer, but in December was fired.
His unfulfilled dream Stroheim in the future will take place in their own and other people’s films: play about two dozen officers, from lieutenants to field marshal.
