David Suchet is a British actor who gained world fame thanks to his leading role on Agatha Christie’s Poirot. Five times nominated for a BAFTA Award. Winner of the Order of the British Empire in the rank of commander.

Short biography
David Suchet was born on May 2, 1946 in London. His father’s ancestors were Lithuanians, and on the maternal line were Jews from Latvia and Belarus. The susha family brought up three sons: the eldest, John, achieved success in journalism, and the youngest, Peter, became a doctor. Contrary to the hopes of his parents, only Peter followed in the footsteps of his father, a successful doctor. David was also going to devote himself to medicine, but failed to pass the exams.

His mother, an actress by profession, often drove sons to performances. Young David was so attracted by the scene and backstage life that he set about trying to do dramatic art. Already at 18, Suchet played small roles in the National Youth Theater and made a firm decision to become an actor. He entered the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, where he studied for three years.

At the same time, his career on television began – a long series of serials, where Suchet performed episodic roles. After graduation, he became an assistant to the general manager of the theater in Chester, near London, and two years later was accepted into the troupe of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

In 30 years, David married the London theater actress Sheila Ferris. The couple had a son, Robert, and two years later she had a daughter, Catherine.

The first serious work Suchet in the movie was the film “The Red Monarch” (1983) about Joseph Stalin, in which David played the cruel state security commissioner Lavrenti Beria. The following year, the actor was invited to the American mini-series “Intrigue” and the British television project “Freud”. For his rich creative path, he repeatedly came into contact with the Russian theme: after the role of Beria, Suchet appeared in several films about the Soviet Union, for example, in Roger Young’s picture “Gulag” (1984) and in the American Cold War drama “Agents Sokol and Snowman “.

1985 brought David fame thanks to the role of Inspector Japp in the television movie “Detectives Agatha Christie: 13 at the table.” David Suchet became a popular and popular actor, although world fame overtook him only in the 1989th when he starred in the television series Poirot. The 43-year-old actor has become a “textbook” embodiment of a brilliant detective who is phenomenally shrewd and reveals the most intricate crimes. For this role, Suchet was nominated three times for a British Film Academy Award. It turned out to be difficult to remove from the brilliant image, but David managed to create dissimilar and vivid characters in dozens of new British and American projects: “Deadly Voyage”, “Perfect Murder”, “Protection from the Fool”, “Dracula”, “Sabotage!” “,” Henry VIII “and others.
