Both her parents were of mixed origin. ALIDI grandfather on the paternal side was the Baron Luigi Altenburger, Austrian-Italian from Trento, a descendant of the counts D’arco, and my grandmother Eliza Tomasi had a cousin of the Roman Senator Ettore Tolomei. The first successful movie valley was the Comedy ‘a Thousand lire a month’ (Mille lire al mese) in 1939, the plot of which was the misadventures of an electronics technician in the pioneering era of television. Posters for the film were created by artist Anselmo Ballester, who painted the impressive posters of size 140×200, which first appeared face Alida valley, staring from the TV screen.
Valli starred in plenty of comedies before they could prove themselves as a fine dramatic actress, in the historical film ‘the Little old world’ (1941) Mario Soldati. The success of the ‘little World’ in Europe can be compared with the success of ‘Gone with the wind’ in the United States. Alida has become a movie star and won a prize at the Venice film festival as ‘Best actress’.
During the Second world valley played many main roles in films that became classics of Italian cinema. Among them was the 1942 film ‘nothing new Today’ (Stasera niente di nuovo), the song from which ‘Ma l’amore no’ has become the Italian hit the 40’s, and the diptych ‘We live’ and ‘good-bye, Kira’ (Noi Vivi – Addio Kira!) based on the novel by Ayn Rand. The government’s censorship Mussolini wanted to prohibit the films, but they still came out as the book on which they were placed, had a strong anti-Soviet. Films enjoyed great success, but after a few weeks was removed from the show, as the German and Italian administrations have seen in the diptych not only anticommunist, but anti-fascist message.
