Alexander Ovechkin was born on September 17, 1985 in Moscow. Father – Michael Ovechkin, former professional football player, Mother – basketball player Tatyana Ovechkina, defender of the USSR national team.
At the age of eight, the boy started studying in the hockey section, but soon he dropped out of school because of the employment of his parents. One of the coaches persuaded the child to be returned to the section of the parents. When Ovechkin was 10 years old, his brother Sergei was killed in a car accident.
After several years of classes, Alexander was invited to the hockey school of Moscow’s Dynamo, where the 12-year-old hockey player scored 59 goals in the Moscow championship, beating Pavel Bure’s record. In 2000, he made his debut in the adult team.
From 2001 to 2005, Ovechkin acted as a left-handed hitter for the Dynamo hockey club.
In 17 years Ovechkin made his debut in the Russian national team, becoming the youngest player of the national team in its history. Alexander participated in ten world championships, becoming a three-time world champion (2008, 2012, 2014). He also performed at three Olympic Games (in Turin-2006, Vancouver-2010 and Sochi-2014).
October 5, 2005 Alexander made his debut in the NHL, becoming a player of the club, “Washington Capitals”, in which he also acts at the present time.
In the season of 2012 \ 2013 because of the lockout in the NHL Ovechkin played for some time for the Moscow “Dynamo”.
Since the end of 2011, Alexander Ovechkin met with Russian tennis player Maria Kirilenko. In December 2012, Ovechkin and Kirilenko announced their engagement, but in July 2014 they parted at the initiative of the tennis player.
In March 2015, it became known that Alexander Ovechkin meets with the youngest daughter of actress Vera Glagoleva Anastasia Shubskaya.
