Biography
American actor, producer, director and writer Alan Alda was born January 28, 1936 in New York. His mother, Joan Brown, a young man was named “Miss New York”. His father Robert Alda was a famous actor, actively acted in films and played in musicals on Broadway. He had Italian roots, his real name – Alfonso Giuseppe Giovanni Roberto Abruzzo. Alan, named at birth Alfonso Joseph Abruzzo, later took over his father’s nickname. The same did his younger brother, actor Anthony Alda.
Alan grew up a sickly boy, suffered a polio but recovered. The desire to follow in the footsteps of a parent took shape by itself. For the first time the young man appeared on the scene at age 16, performing in summer theater, the Burnsville, Pennsylvania. He received a good education, studying at Fordham University and the Sorbonne. Parallel to his studies, together with his father Alan has performed on stage and television Rome Amsterdam. After receiving a bachelor’s degree, he served in the US Army Reserve Corps, on his return from which, in 1957, married to Arlene Weiss.
