Ole Einar Bjoerndalen is a Norwegian biathlete. Multiple Olympic champion and world champion. He was born on January 27, 1974 in the town of Drammen. He grew up on a farm in another small Norwegian town of Simostrand.
In childhood he was fond of football, cycling and track and field athletics. Began to engage in biathlon since 1984, at the age of 10 years. In 1992, he became a member of the Norwegian national team. The first serious success came to him when he finished fourth in the 1994/95 World Cup overall. In two years he was second, and then the first.
For a long time he was engaged in cross-country skiing, but from 17 he concentrated on biathlon. In 1993 he became a three-time world champion among juniors. A year later he joined the national team.
The first victory at the World Cup stage came to Ole Einar only in the season-1996/97. For the first time he won the World Cup in 1998. In the same season he became the Olympic champion in Nagano in the sprint.
The peak of his career was the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. It was there that the Norwegian became the owner of a unique achievement: he won four of four possible victories and became the only absolute Olympic champion in biathlon in the world.
In 2010, he won another Olympic gold. In addition to the Olympic awards and six wins in the overall World Cup scores, the Norwegian is the owner of 19 gold medals in the world championships.
In 1996, Bjoerndalen hired a personal psychologist – Oyvind Hammer, who often travels with the biathlete himself. Hammer in the past was engaged in the sale of vacuum cleaners. It was this work that introduced him to Bjoerndalen – Hammer managed to sell a very expensive pocket vacuum cleaner to a biathlete. And with this vacuum cleaner the Norwegian sportsman comes to all competitions, using it as a talisman.
His older brother, Doug Bjoerndalen, also practiced biathlon and skiing.
