Don Johnson is an American actor, producer and solo artist.
Biography
Born December 15, 1949 in Flat Creek, Missouri, in the family of a cosmetologist and a farmer. In 1967 he graduated from the school, then studied at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. In 1969, Johnson played his first serious role on the stage – Smitty in the production of Fortune and Men’s Eyes.
The actor’s film debut is Leonard Horn’s The Magic Garden of Stanley Sweetheart (1970). The tape has not gained popularity, as well as the following works of Don. Good 15 years, he almost every year appeared on the screen, but only on episodic or secondary roles.
The long-awaited glory came to Johnson in 1984. On the television channel NBC, a crime series, “Miami Police: The Department of Morals,” was launched, in which he played an agent from the anti-drug department of James Crocket named “Sonny.” The project enjoyed constant success with the audience before 1990. The actor also tried himself as a director of several episodes. Sonny’s role made Don a world-class star: for it, he received the Golden Globe television award.
In 1986, Johnson decided to realize his talent in the musical field and released the studio album Heartbeat, the testimony of whose popularity is the 17th line in the Billboard 200 chart. The disc was sold with a circulation of 500,000 copies and received the status of “golden”. After 3 years, Don presented to the public an album Let It Roll, however, far from as successful as the debut.
In 1989, the actor played a major role in the criminal thriller John Frankenheimer’s “The Death Shot,” and two years later he performed Marlborough in Simon Winser’s western “Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Cowboy.” The partners of Johnson’s set were Mickey Rourke and Daniel Baldwin.
1990 – the peak of the popularity of the actor. However, not all films with him were equally successful: the thriller “Guilty beyond suspicion” by Sidney Lumet, the criminal detective “Farewell, the lover” by Roland Joffe, the sports drama “Tin Cup” was rather coolly received by the public.
However, in 1996, Don again appeared in the audience favorite role of the valiant policeman in the new series “Detective Nash Bridges”. The project went from March 1996 to May 2001 on CBS, and Johnson’s fees went up to $ 150,000 per episode.
The beginning of the new millennium is an unproductive period for the actor. He filmed less often than before, and mostly in rather questionable projects.
Johnson’s second wind opened in 2010. At first, the famous Robert Rodriguez invited him to his thrash action film “Machete”. Then the legendary director Quentin Tarantino, a fan of the series “Miami Police: Department of Disagreements”, offered Don Johnson to play in the western “Django Liberated”, which broke record box office receipts and won many prestigious awards.
